remap keys on a magic keyboard

I recently bought an Apple magic keyboard to use with my MacBook pro. I am trying to remap 'control' and 'caps lock' through the 'modifier keys' feature, but it does not seem to have an effect on the magic keyboard, even though it works perfectly fine on the MacBook pro's keyboard. Any tips on how to make this work? Thanks in advance!

Switching Keyboards I was using a logitech usb mx keyboard previously, but then bought a apple magic keyboard. My mac mini m1 shows the magic keyboard under bluetooth and it operates fine. But the keyboard under preferences still thinks it is the logitech so the keys and functions are not aligning. How can get keyboard to be in the magic keyboard layout in preferences?
