Is there any way how to tell if an unsealed Ipad is stolen?

I got an offer for a sealed Ipad and its serial number is not activated yet (I only got it from the box). Is there any way how to tell whether the device is stolen or not?

You should buy only from Apple or an authorized dealer. The Apple online store is always available by clicking on the black link at the top or any forum page.

I would ask no matter the source unless it's actual iPad reseller so your answer wasn't that helpful
