Restore backup created on gen7 ipod to a gen6 ipod?

Can you restore a backup created on a gen7 ipod to a gen6 ipod?

I think I learned the VERY hard way that it can't be done, because the gen7 ipod's iOS was at 15 and the gen6 ipods don't support iOS 15... Hence restoring a backup from gen7 to gen6 is forbidden.

Can anyone confirm this?

You are correct. If you did it the other way, it would work, but then the 7 gen iPod would immediately begin updating to iOS 15 (perhaps with some intermediate steps)
