air pods not connecting to my MacBookPro

My air pods always automatically connected to my MacBookPro but all of a sudden they are not. They can still connect to my iPhone but do not even show up in my device list on the blacktooth list of devices on my MacBookPro.

All the advice I found was to disconnect and reconnect the air pods but they are not on the list to disconnect.

Help!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.1

Verifying AirPods Connectivity:

A. Are these Even Seen?:

To Find Out, Use "System Report":

  1. Go to: Apple menu
  2. Select: About this Mac
  3. Click: System Report... button
  4. View: Hardware on left-column
  5. Click: Audio
  6. Click: Bluetooth
  7. Confirm if AirPods are Even Seen

B. Single Out this User:

See what happens when you create a new Administrator User and login to it and view these If it works, then it is something misconfigured in your current user.

C. Connect to a Different Mac:

Connect this to a difference Mac, seeing if you can get it to work. If you don't have another Mac, ask someone else (i.e. friend or family member) if you may use their Mac(with their permission, or course).

"air pods not connecting to my MacBookPro: We're clarifying! The air pods were not seen per above. I created a new user and they connected! What might be wrongly configured for my usual 'user'?"

Start with a Restart:

Having set these up successfully, restart your Mac, seeing if they are now seen your current user.

Uninstall Security Software:

Have and Security Software installed? If you have Security Software installed, it may be blocking out connectivity through use of firewall. So, uninstall it (using an uninstaller from the Developer), if not required for usage.

Some Other Things to Try:

I. Reinstall Malwarebytes:

Malwarebytes is fine to have installed. Most certainly keep that. It is created by longtome users of these forums. So, you can go ahead an reinstall that. Get it from the App Store. After it is installed, restart your Mac. Then update Malwarebytes and perform a scan.

II. Boot in Safe Mode:

In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, see if it works. Then, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting another update install. For instructions, go here: How to Use sSafe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

If No Success...

III. Reinstall the macOS:

Go Here: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple SupportImportant: Be certain to create a backup of your Mac prior to all of this. That way, you can have something to restore from the Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall. Once reinstalled, try this once more. If that is too technical for you, then contact Apple Support.

Apple Contact Info:

Why the Wait:

Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

You are most welcome.

Important:

If anything was found in Malwarebytes, be certain you remove it from the Quarantine (the place where all found items are placed so you can remove it).

Elecellent job troubleshooting, on your part!

Hi, Thank you for your suggestions.

The apple support documents don't explain what to do when the air pods don't show up at all on the blue tooth list of devices.

  1. If your AirPods are connected, make sure they're selected as your audio device. If your AirPods appear in the list of devices but they don't connect, click the X to the right of your AirPods to remove them from the list.
  2. Close the lid, wait 15 seconds, then open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the charging case for up to 10 seconds. The status light should flash white, which means your AirPods are ready to connect.

I've reset the air pods. They connect to my iphone and other devices (wireless mouse and keyboard) connect to the MacBookPro. The air pods don't show up on the blue tooth list of devices and I can't find a way to add a device.
