How much RAM needed to run zoom and teams concurrently?

Hello,

I am running a MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) 8gb memory.

I was currently on zoom and teams, concurrently, and my screen went purple - the system was forced to restart. This has happened in the past with other programs, and apple determined that it isn't a hardware issue.

I'm wondering though, is it possible the entire system crashed because 8gb is not high enough to run both teams and zoom?

Thank you in advance.

8GB RAM is plenty to run Zoom and Teams concurrently. The issue is not the amount of RAM. The issue is that Zoom and Teams are not optimized for each other using the same system resources (Camera, Microphone and Speakers especially). Combine this with drawing live video on the screen at the same time.

You mentioned that this had happened in the past with other programs. Which were those programs?

I don’t believe that this is Zoom or Teams related. There is something else going on that is causing these crashes. Have you tried reinstalling the macOS? If you want to reinstall the macOS on your M1 MacBook Pro, then follow the instructions in this guide published by Apple ➡️ How to reinstall macOS and follow the section related to Apple Silicon.

The apple store reps did indeed reinstall mac before replacing two parts (the m1 chip and the touch bar) to see if those would help. The reinstallation did not help, as the issue persisted shortly after, whereas the replacement parts did seem to do help for 4 months without issues (until this past Thursday).
I'm not sure what to think at this point.
