Unable to preview audio in finder Mac mini M1

Hi, I'm not very technical so my apologies in advance if this isn't as clear as it could be.

I work with audio and often preview it in finder using the play button. This has been working fine, I turned on my computer this morning and the play button has been replaced with the Apple Music logo and can't be played in finder. I also usually drag files into Pro Tools to edit them, this is now no longer possible either. I don't know what could have changed. Does anyone have any ideas?

Is icon preview set for that folder? View menu, Show View Options.

Another thing that causes that is size of the icon. Try changing the icon size to be a little bigger (also in View Options).

icon preview is set and changing the size has no impact. I’m unable to play the file at all (even in Apple Music) so maybe, somehow the file information has been lost. It’s happened on 50% of my audio files.

If you have a backup copy of the file, copy it to your Mac and try again.

If it works, then you’ll need to run Disk Utility to perform First Aid on your Macintosh HD.

I copied the files to Mac again and they work fine.

ran disk utility but no problems arose.

I have signed out of iCloud and my files are now usable so somehow that is connected.

the new problem is that I can’t log back into iCloud. Just getting this icon.

So managed to get back into iCloud and all problems seemed to be solved.

if anyone has got a clue as to what was going on there please let me know. It’d be good to know if it happens again in the future.

It appears that the files somehow got corrupted.

Since Disk Utility/First Aid reported no problems, we have successfully eliminated disk corruption and have identified that the files themselves were affected.
