I have a laptop that a user set up with find my mac, and I can't disable the activation lock, the user no longer works for the company and is not responding to my requests to disable it. What's the process for getting it remotely disabled..

If it’s a company computer was it being managed by an IT department? If so, contact them for help. If not and you go to Apple for help they will require proof of ownership, meaning an original purchase receipt. Since it is a company owned computer the accounting department should have it.

Activation Lock is a theft deterrent mechanism and is not easily removed without proper credentials.
