Forgot password MacBook

Hello, got a late 2009 or mid 2010 MacBook that I haven’t used for at least 7 years. Turns on fine but can’t access since I don’t remember password. Can’t get serial number either (threw away packaging and it is not engraved on the outside). Any suggestions? I don’t mind erasing if necessary
