how to connect Apple TV 3rd generation

How can I hook up Apple TV 3rd generation? Would like to connect to a Samsung monitor. Since it is an old device, will I still be able to use?

The Apple TV is designed for an HDTV, and connects via HDMI. If the display in question is a computer monitor then it can still work, but it will need that port (and you would then also need to make sure it supports HDCP). It is an older model but it still has some support from Apple for firmware and a version of their TV app that was ported over. However, it is worth noting that many 3rd party providers have been dropping support for their native channels on that device and it also doesn't run the same OS as the 4th gen and later so it will not have the same type of features.
