I just updated my mac and I accidentally removed my downloads stack (the one that sits next to the trash icon on the dock) and I don't know how to add it back tried searching it but the answers were from 2017 and older and didn't apply to the new software.

Open a Finder window and drag the Downloads folder to the Dock. 😉

I have accidentally removed my downloads stack (the one that sits next to the trash icon on the dock) today... I tried to go to Finder but did not see download icon there like before. Can anyone help me to try find it and move it to the dock please? Would appreciate it. Thanks.
I dragged the Downloads folder to the Dock, but it isn't organized in stacks. I used to see a fan of just the most recent downloads. Now I get a window with little images of the downloads, mostly the older ones. How can I get it to fan?
Is it not in your Home folder (cmd-shift-h)?
If it is missing from you home, create a new folder and name it Downloads.
Ctrl-click on the folder in the Dock and choose how you want it to display.
