Smart Keyboard for iPad 7th generation

Why does the space bar not work on my just purchased Smart Keyboard? I must use the touch keypad on my iPad to include spaces between words and sentences. Very frustrating. Thanks.

Check your Accessibility settings and make sure Full Keyboard Access is turned OFF.
