cursor highlights when not dragging to highlight at all

Thanks for the update. One thing you could do is to isolate other software on the Mac by booting using safe mode and see if the issue persists. Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS. If it does then it seems it would be isolated to those documents or services and contacting them may be helpful.

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems like if you tap on something it will highlight the whole word. This may be caused by the Tap to click setting in the System Preferences. Try to disable it and see if the issue persists.
