VIPs folder... unwanted; if I empty it it deletes all input mail folder; How to correct this and eliminate folder?

Smart Mailboxes provide complete access to the original items that match the criteria of the mailbox. If you delete things from the Smart Mailbox, the originals will be deleted.
There is a glitch in the VIP Smart Mailbox criteria that displays all messages in the inbox if you have never set anyone as a VIP.
Have your ctrl-clicked on it and tried "Remove from Favorites?"
