Numbers Portfolio Template: entering fractional stock purchase in shares alters the cost basis. How to fix/change

Numbers Portfolio Template: entering fractional stock purchase in shares alters the cost basis. How to fix/change?

The formula divides the price I paid by the the stock purchase price. Can the formula be changed so, if the stock is less than one share (fractional) the price paid enters directly into the cost basis cell without change?

I am using to tract some Crypto. eg. Purchase $1,000 of Bitcoin which sells for $40,000.

Thanks

I do not understand how that makes sense. "Price paid" is the price paid per share. Price paid per share x number of shares = cost basis. I do not understand why this should be different for a fractional share.

I think what you may want to do is change which values are entered and which are calculated. In the template, the price per share is entered by the user and the cost basis is calculated. If you want it the other way around, enter the correct cost basis for each stock purchase (overwriting the formulas with your manual entries) then change the formula in column H to be the cost basis divided by the number of shares bought. Or maybe it is the number of shares you want calculated. In that case, leave the formula in H alone and the formula for number of shares = cost basis/price per share.

Whatever change you make should probably be done to the entire table, not a row here and there.

Thanks for the quick response. I may be confusing myself. I have attached a screen shot of the cells.

since it is multiplying the fractional shares.

Curious why you don't think the fractional shares should be included in your cost basis.
