Apps Greyed Out after 15.2.1 iOS Update

After updating to iOS 15.2.1, you may find a lot of your apps greyed out labeled “waiting.” After apple support agents were baffled by this issue, I went to find a solution myself. This is what fixed it for me:

  1. Restarted the phone
  2. Hold down on affected apps
  3. Select ‘Cancel Download.’ This should fix this issue. If option is not showing, proceed to step 4.
  4. Unselect the affected app, and hold down on it a second time. The ‘Cancel Download’ button should appear again.

I hope this helps everyone, and I hope this bug is fixed in the future. This update also turned on automatic app downloads for me randomly too, so turn it back off if you do not want that.
