Airpod Max not connecting to MacOS (Monterey v12.1) unless I turn off bluetooth and turn it on again (on MacOS)

Is there a way to have the Airpod Max directly connect to MacOS like it usually does on my iPad or iPhone? if not, then is there a way that I can connect it with MacOS without needing to turn off bluetooth and turn it on again? (P.S. I usually click on the my bluetooth devices, in the bluetooth menu, on MacOS, to connect to them. But, when clicking on the Airpod Max icon, nothing happens, unless I turn off bluetooth and start again)

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.0
