My shuffle won’t actually shuffle

I listen to all of my songs (hundreds) on shuffle because I work from home. However, my “shuffle” seems to be very selective. It continues to play the same songs over and over. It’s not on repeat, I have clicked on shuffle from my library, but nothing. Help please!!!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. If we understand, when using the Shuffle feature in the Apple Music app on your iOS device, it will shuffle some, but not all, of the music. In addition, only the songs that get shuffled are playing. We're happy to help!


We would suggest going through the below troubleshooting to start:


  1. Close the Apple Music app: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support and restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
  2. Check for, and install, any available updates for your iOS software: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. This will also update the Apple Music app.
  3. If streaming, see if the issue occurs on another internet network.
