updating imovie

Try this procedure:

To update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the

trash. Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar.   You will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash and return it to the Applications folder.

That would work...if you EVER actually purchased iMovie, instead of having it installed as part of Mojave, like me. It does not show up as a "purchase" in that case.

Something happened to my copy of iMovie 10.1.1 that makes it crash whenever you try to share. I can't upgrade to Catalina on my machine...all I want to do is install a fresh copy of what I had before, or the latest version that runs on Mojave (supposedly, by another poster, 10.1.9). When I followed Apple's instructions to delete the app in Launchpad, it DOESN'T go into the Trash... I could copy it from a previous clone.

IT'S UNCONSCIONABLE THAT APPLE DOESN'T LET US DOWNLOAD EARLIER VERSIONS OF SOFTWARE THAT ARE COMPATIBLE WITH OUR HARDWARE LIKE IT ALWAYS USED TO! And I don't trust the non-Apple sites that claim to have iMovie in earlier versions.

I'm not entirely clear as to how you acquired iMovie 10, or how many copies of it you have on your Mac.

You would need to drag (not use the Launchpad) all of your iMovie 10 copies into the trash, but do not empty the trash. Then go to the app store and see if you can update. Also, you can try clicking on the Updates item in the app store sidebar.

I am running iMovie 10.1.12 on Mojave, and I believe that Mojave will run up to iMovie 10.1.13 or 10.1.4.
