Missing numbers spreadsheets

Numbers has automatically updated on my iPad and I have lost all my documents. Recently deleted is blank. How can I recover them?

iPad Air, iOS 12

Start here - as you may have recoverable Numbers files in iCloud:

Recover deleted files on iCloud.com – Apple Support

If files cannot be recovered directly from iCloud, do you have a current full iCloud or iTunes backup of your iPad - that predated the App update? If so, you can restore all data that was present on your iPad at the time of the backup.

Thank you. I’ve already tried iCloud.com. They should have been backed up there but no luck. I’m a little wary of the more drastic erase option but may try it on an old device.

Be aware that you cannot restore a backup to a device that has an earlier version of iOS/iPadOS than was used to create the backup.
