I have a new Macbook Pro using OS Big Sur and having struggled with the new layout of MAIL, I want to return to the OLD layout: the "classic" horizontal message list with the "viewing pane" below the list.
I've looked around and see no way to do this either in Mail preferences or in VIEW.
Is there a way to do it?

I saw that suggested before, but when I tried it out, it didn't look right. I saw the senders in a left column and blank everywhere else. I didn't even see the pane below--I had to scroll down.
I mention that in case others are confused when they try this fix.
You have spread things out to get the old look.

Additional info - If using Flags in this mode and they do not appear - Header marked Subject >> Right Click and another sub menu appears. Choose Flags in this sub menu
