I purchased an apple watch series 1 in 2017 as a gift. It has never been activated could I use it now in 2022?
My first concern would be that, if the watch has been sitting in a box for five years, the battery may no longer be any good.

A series 1 watch is very low on storage capacity and the hardware is not really up to running the latest iphone software,it is technically possible but will be very difficult to even pair and a watch that old will require an update which happens when you try to pair it with the phone.
Try to pair it and you will see what I mean.
