Using old Mac as a screen for a MacBook Air 2020?

I have an old iMac 21.5 inch late 2012 with OS X Yosemite 10.10.5, which I want to use as an external monitor for my MacBook Air (M1, 2020) with Big Sur. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204592#:~:text=Connect%20the%20two%20computers%20using,(not%20the%20other%20iMac).

tells me that I must have a 2019 or earlier with macOS Catalina or earlier installed.

Is there a work around for my situation, and can you advice the optimum cable to use / steps to set up?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.5

I'm sorry but newer Macs no longer offer this feature. It can't be done.
