How do I back up all my 8 years of pictures and contacts to new iPhone???

Your iPhone should never serve as a sole repository for photos, or contacts for that matter. These things need some other place to be primarily housed. And that housing place should be backed up. So, for example, your photos may be saved on your computer. Or in iCloud Photos. They may then also appear on your iPhone. But if your iPhone lands in a toilet or gets run over by a bus, you’ll still have your photos available.
