Can iPhones be effected by files? I was using a third-party email service on Safari and I got a strange email. When I tried to delete it, it tried to download the attached file that probably had a virus. Is there a way to check if I have a virus? I have an iPhone 13 mini with iOS 16.1.1. The files app does not have any strange files and I was using cPanel’s (cPanel is a website editor) Webmail via Roundcube. Both are perfectly trustworthy, but the email was not. I can’t find any way to check for a virus in the Settings app. Please help!

Opened an email in error I opened an email trying to delete it and clearly it was a scam type email within it it had ‘mime’ downloads which I did not click on but as quick as possible I deleted the whole thing - just worried I may have downloaded a virus or have enabled a hacker to gain access on my iPhone ?

iPhone - email Compromised- malware? Hello! I made the mistake of clicking on a link from a contact I thought I could trust. The link brought me to a sign-in page where I entered in my email address and password. Shortly after realizing my mistake I reset my password and settings for my email account. Is it possible that by clicking the link that my iPhone is now infected with a virus or malware? If so what is the recommended course of action?

No.

Mere clicking on a link does not affect much. Do not divulge any personal credentials. You are safe till then.

Clicking on links merely sends a response to the server hosting the link that a human is present. They can't do anything else except to keep sending such links again and again in the hope that you may give out some info.
