"Change Password" button is still greyed out after I unlock the padlock with the admin login password. I am trying to change the admin login password.

I want to change the admin login password. When I go to Users & Groups, then unlock the padlock, the "Change Password" button is still greyed out. How do I change the admin login password?

Hi CafeMama08,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. We see you're having some issues resetting your administrator password because the "Change Password" button is grayed out. We're happy to assist.

This link covers how to Change or reset the password of a macOS user account in macOS Mojave or earlier, and this one covers the steps for later versions: If you forgot your Mac login password

To double-check, are you currently logged into an administrator account? Is it a managed device or running any profiles?

Also, to test, are you able to unlock the padlock and make changes in any other categories in System Preferences?

Let us know.
