If you are near an AC outlet, use it on AC power.

If you need portability, use it on battery power.

There is no requirement to try and micromanage the charging process.

Just don't leave the battery completely drained for too long as a battery can become damaged without any charge on it. Plus when an Apple laptop's battery is at 0%, it will sometimes not be able to charge the battery or even power on the laptop.
