I need a first generation male thunderbolt-1 to a male end USB-C adopter data wire. Does that wire exist? To hookup up usb-c type LaCie backup unit to MacBookPro mid 2012 laptop that has no Usb-C.

Thunderbolt 2 and 1 use the same connectors… Thunderbolt 2 is twice the speed at 20gbps, but is backwards compatible.
I don’t know how much power the drive uses, but you might be able to use a USB-A to USB-C (data, 3.2 gen1 5gbps minimum) cable, since the 2012 MBPs have USB 3 ports.
I was just told TB-1 and TB-2 have no power line so they won’t power the external drive. I would need a Thunderbolt docking unit with its own power plug. About $300. Not worth it. I’ll just buy a new backup unit. I’ll investigate the FireWire and see if it has a power line. The I’ll see about a usb-c to FireWire 400 .
Thanks, I am doing that now. First Backup took 32 hours. Too long. I added 8 GB Ram much better now. 2 hours instead of 32. I think apples USB-C to Thunderbolt-2 adapter with an optionAl Thunderbolt wire will work. We’ll see soon .
This article: https://www.macworld.com/article/210898/thunderbolt_what_you_need_to_know.html suggests that Thunderbolt can carry power. Do you mind sending me a link to the drive you have, and / or an image the ports and connections on the drive? I think it would be quite helpful in this situation.
