H.264 Codec -- MP4 or MOV format?

Hello,

I'm encoding multiple files to the popular H.264 codec at 900 kbps. I wanted to know if there was any difference between encoding to H.264 in a MPEG-4 file format or encoding to H.264 in a MOV file format. If they are different, what are the differences? And which one has superior quality?

.mov is not a format, it is a container. The format is determined by the codec used to create the video inside. All that the .mov file extension does is tell Mac OS X to open the file in QuickTime Player or a compatible application that has access to QuickTime components such as Final Cut Pro, iTunes etc.

H.264 is an MPEG-4 format. Typically in .MOV form...
