I burned an mp4 track on a CD and can play it on my Mac with no problem but when I tried to play it on a regular home stereo CD player, it didn't work. Do I need to convert the mp4 file into some other format for it to play on a regular audio, stereo CD?

You need to check what format(s) your player can handle and get some encoding software to burn it with. Please note: if the source is copyright/DRM protected, it will not work. Depending on your player, you may also need to "finalize" the disk in order to play it in any player.
How about downloading the mp4 file into iTunes. Will I be able to convert it to a file that can be audible on a CD/played on a regular CD player? Does iTunes have that capability then I can burn the converted mp4 file into an audio CD?
