I saw no reference to a 'family plan' when I purchased Calm through the app store. I now learn that one cannot apply the purchase to a family plan. Fixes?

Nothing to fix. Calm is a free app for download so does not need to be shared.

It incudes subscriptions which have not been set as shareable by the App developer so cannot be shared over family sharing. It's up to the App developer to allow sharing of the subscriptions over Family Sharing not Apple.
