login passcode failure, after my thumbprint access, iPhone 8

New to the community and APPLE in general. Newer Cell Phone iPhone 8.

problems with initial use and setup. Seemed to have a good thumbprint that worked. Then later a pass-code was required. Created one that seemed to work but later,it did not work or let me into the phone. Each try fails and suggests a longer wait time before trying again. Have tried possible typo check at my end keyboard input problem. How can I get a chance to reset that data?
