How to unlock deceased relative’s phone?

My grandfather recently passed away and we need to get into his phone for information. We don’t know the passcode. Is there anyway we can get in without wiping the phone?

Did he set up the Legacy Contacts program in settings? This would allow you to enter his phone and data. Read more here: Request access to an Apple account as a Legacy Contact - Apple Support
