Macbook Pro 13 inch early 2011 doesn't charge. Green light. Turns on with charger!

Hi, so I googled a lot, but do not find my situation because my macbook does turn on connected with the charger and is functional though it stays at 1 or 0% and is very sloooooooooowww.

According to coconut the battery is excellent, capacity above 90% (its rather new), but it doesn't charge. Charger light stays green

Without the charger its a dead brick. did the pram stuff

Any tips? thanks!

Could it possibly be the charger? (Because of the green light). Could there be a situation where a charger is not charging but at the same time powering the macbook? Or is the charger just passing electricity to the max?

Interestingly, my old 2010 17" MBP that my son has been using was behaving like that this morning. The light on the MagSafe charger was green, unplugging it then reconnecting it, it stayed green. The battery indicator on the case showed one flashing green light (i.e. nearly out of charge). MacOS showed ~5% battery and that the power source was Battery. An SMC reset did not help.

I connected the Mac to another power supply, and 2 seconds later the indicator light on that one went from green to orange. It's been a couple of hours now, the light is still orange and the battery indicator on the case now shows the battery is about halfway to a full charge.

So, you may want to try a different MagSafe adapter (if you have or can borrow one), or buy a new one. If you take it to the Genius Bar, they can try one of theirs.

You may have a defective battery even though it shows as good. Or you need to remove and reseat the battery cable. Worse case would be the logic board. I'm going to try and insert a pic of what should show up in about this Mac-system report -power. Model Information: Serial Number: 00030C0L77ZC Manufacturer: DP Device Name: bq20z451 Pack Lot Code: 420a PCB Lot Code: 512 Firmware Version: 860f Hardware Revision: 860f Cell Revision: 860f Charge Information: Charge Remaining (mAh): 5159 Fully Charged: Yes Charging: No Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5159 Health Information: Cycle Count: 6 Condition: Normal Battery Installed: Yes Amperage (mA): 0 Voltage (mV): 12315 System Power Settings: AC Power: System Sleep Timer (Minutes): 0 Disk Sleep Timer (Minutes): 0 Display Sleep Timer (Minutes): 6 Wake on AC Change: No Wake on Clamshell Open: Yes Wake on LAN: No Current Power Source: Yes Display Sleep Uses Dim: Yes Hibernate Mode: 3 PrioritizeNetworkReachabilityOverSleep: 0 Battery Power: System Sleep Timer (Minutes): 0 Disk Sleep Timer (Minutes): 0 Display Sleep Timer (Minutes): 5 Wake on AC Change: No Wake on Clamshell Open: Yes Display Sleep Uses Dim: Yes Hibernate Mode: 3 Reduce Brightness: Yes Hardware Configuration: UPS Installed: No AC Charger Information: Connected: Yes ID: 0x0100 Wattage (W): 60 Revision: 0x0000 Family: 0x0085 Serial Number: 0x00ca9153 Charging: No You have done a nvram reset and a SMC reset.Right? You could try a reinstall from recovery. But I am starting to think this is a hardware problem.

I suppose it's possible. If you did the SMC reset that may have also woke it up. In About this Mac-System report- Power, you should look at full charge capacity and charge remaining. If it's fully charged they should be the same. If it shows a low count you might need to replace the battery. Also look at voltage, sit should be around 12222 then down near the bottom of the report it shows your Mag Safe power supply, which should show 60 watts.Determine battery cycle count for Mac notebooks - Apple Support

Anything is possible. But you would have to try an known good charge cable to know that. If you look at the very bottom of my screen shot it shows the charger.Which in my case is not charging because my battery at the time was fully charged. But it shows as putting out 60 watts.. Which is what it is supposed to do. In rare cases your MagSafe connector on the laptop could be defective. but that is rare. You would have to let the Apple Genius Bar check it to know.

Try restarting, but hold the Command Option Shift key down while pressing the power button for 10 seconds. Then let it boot up. Can you run the MacBook Pro on battery only? Go to about this Mac, top left the apple click on it. About this Mac system report-Power. Look under charge information. Fully charged -charging- charge capacity- cycle count -condition.. If coconut battery shows above 90%, like 97-98% your Mag Safe my show green. If your MacBook Pro will run on battery then it has a charge.
