Why was I charged full amount for a “free” trial?

Why was my bank charged the full 9.99 in my account for a free trial? I thought you were not supposed to be charged until the trial was over??

Apple TV is $4.99, not $9.99 so the charge may have been for something else.

As above, apple.com/bill covers more than just this streaming service. You would need to go into your account to properly identify. Keep in mind that just like Apple's own offer that this is for new subscribers only so if you had used the service prior the offer would not be valid. If you were entitled to the offer and verify the billing then you would need to contact Ticketmaster because this particular offer was through them (the service itself is through Apple, hence the charge).

I was pre-authorized by APPLE.COM

No, the charge on your statement was pre-authorized.

The offer has to be redeemed in the indicated manner, as set out by TM. It is not automatic, nor available through other ways. Just subscribing without redeeming would give new subscribers a 7 day trial, or regular billing to returning or existing subscribers .
