Greetings sarmadaqrawi,

Apple Support Communities is a wonderful place for help with the Notes app and tags on your devices. It look as though you’re having issues with tags in Notes on your Mac, and were directed here from the Use Tags and Smart Folders in Notes on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch article.

From the description, it sounds as though the tags aren’t showing the entire word, or have been changed and you’re unable to identify what the tag was intended for. To confirm, does this happen only on the Mac or does it happen in Notes on other devices? If the issue is specific to the Mac, have you restarted the Mac and verified macOS is updated? If not, those can be helpful steps in reaching a resolution. For reference, those steps are linked below.

Shutdown or restart your Mac

Update macOS on Mac

If you continue to have issues after restarting and updating, you may find deleting and recreating the tags helpful. The following article outlines those steps on Mac.

Dear Sharon,

Please note that I have this issue on my devices (Mac, iPhone and Ipad) and even in icloud.com, as you can see from the below sample note, all of my tags have been changed to #... , please note that I knew that the title is " #Meeting with #Aya " as the title remained unchanged from the list (of the left), you can also see from the first line preview (on the left) that the first item in the list (the first hashtag) is #Touch_Lebanon while in the right side it is #..., Now I am confused, shall I keep using Apple Notes or revert back to Evernote, as my notes are useless as of the below case, unfortunately, the below note is very important but it is useless now.

Best regards and thank you in advance,

Sarmad

Did you have the opportunity to delete and recreate the tags? If not, the previously linked articles outline those steps on Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

If you continue to have issues after deleting and recreating the tags, the next step would be to contact Apple. You can find their contact details via the Get Support website.

Hello 1ssmith,

Thank you for your reply.

I dont know what were these tags and I lost my notes, since I dont know what were these tags how can I delete and recreate them, as I dont trust Apple Notes tags any more, I am currently use Evernote or if I want to use Apple notes I write the word twice one with the tag and the other without it, e.g. " Following up with 1ssmith #1ssmith " so if it happened again, I will lose the #1ssmith but still be able to read the note which is " Following up with 1ssmith #.... ".

Best Regards,

Sarmad
