Muffled voice when answering/making calls directly from my Macbook

When I answer a phone call directly on my Mac (2020 Macbook Air), my voice is muffled and sounds robotic to the caller or is too low to hear. When I answer on my iphone(13) and transfer the call to my Macbook, there is no problem.


In the latter case, I answer on my phone and then select the MacBook for audio. The microphone used is via my webcam (Logictech 985) and it works fine. It's only when I answer directly on the MacBook (again using the webcam microphones) I get the problem.


The new Macbook's microphone is off when the lid is closed and since I use it with an external monitor, I'd like to be able to answer and make calls directly from/to the MacBook. Any advice?

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand you're experiencing some microphone issues when answering calls directly on your MacBook Air, but when transferring audio to the MacBook Air, it seems to work fine. We'd be happy to help out.


To get started, you've mentioned using a 3rd party Logitech webcam and microphone. Just so we can begin isolating things a bit further, let's eliminate this from the equation, and instead just use the built in microphone and webcam for your MacBook Air and test further to ensure that the Mac itself is working as we'd expect.


While we understand the default microphone and webcam may not be best for your particular needs given your setup, it would certainly help us out in isolating the issue further by taking these steps.
