Iphone was locked out over night. Now it says iPhone unavailable.

I sleep with my phone on the bed. Somehow the phone was locked out overnight and required me to connect it to iTunes on my computer and attempt to install the latest update. I attempted the iTunes connection/Recovery process this morning twice. The first time it asked for passcode 3 times and only accepted the first 2. Since I didn't want it to totally lock me out again, I retried the recovery process and now it says iPhone unavailable and won't go past that screen. I tried chatting with apple support but it says they are unavailable right now. The only other option it has is to speak with them by phone which I obviously can't do. Anyone else have this issue? Please help if you can. Many thanks in advance for any information that can be offered.

Hey TashaKotara,

It looks like someone entered the wrong password on your iPhone way too many times, thus prompting you to connect it to iTunes.

If you forgot your iPhone passcode, follow these steps to regain access (keep in mind following through on this will result in all data that isn't backed up being permanently deleted)(steps valid for iPhone 13, 12, 11, X and 8 series; iOS 15):

  • Power off your iPhone.
  • Plug your iPhone into a computer.
  • Press the volume up button, then press the volume down button, then press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen (a cable, a laptop icon and an Apple Support link).
  • Restore your iPhone using iTunes (Windows) or the Finder (macOS Catalina or later)
