Apple TV 4K 2021 sound to receiver

Does the Apple TV 4K 2021 still send Dolby Digital 5.1 as multichannel to the receiver and therefore unrecognizable?

Welcome Wim243,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, you have some issues with the Apple TV and Digital Atmos with your receiver.

For issues like this, we'd confirm that the set up is correct: Set up Dolby Atmos or surround sound on Apple TV with a sound bar or AV receiver

"Most televisions don't support Dolby Atmos pass-through to sound bars and receivers."

If you continue to have issues playing content, please tell us if you've tried testing other cables to connect the Apple TV to the TV or receiver.

Hoping this helps out, take care.

The Apple TV 4K box defaults to output audio as PCM Multichannel (up to 7.1) (“Auto”) – this needs HDMI to the audio system.

If that isn’t compatible with your setup, then you can change the format to Dolby Digital 5.1.

If that isn’t compatible with your setup, then you can change the format to Stereo 2.0.
