Time Machine and iCloud

I just activated iCloud storage of my Desktop and Documents folders. These folders no longer show when I open my Macintosh HD. What do I do now about Time Machine backups?

The folders are in the iCloud section of the Finder sidebar.

If you don't have Apple menu > System Preferences > Apple ID > iCloud (in the preferences sidebar) > Optimize Mac Storage turned on there will always be a local copy of your iCloud files on your Mac. If you do turn that option on then some files may not have a local copy. If there is no local copy of a file on the Mac then it will not be included in a Time Machine backup.
