Why is Apple asking me for my Social Security number ?

Apple Pay processes all transactions through Green Bank. They are a bank and are required by law to report transactions beyond a certain threshold to the IRS. You must provide them your SSN or you can't use Apple Pay Cash. The same requirement now applies to ALL such services.
