How do I connect my 2012 mac mini to my 2021 M1 mac mini so that I can easily move files between them? I'm not sure how to connect the old Thunderbolt 1 to the new Thunderbolt 4

Use File Sharing and/or Screen Sharing over your local network. A Wi-Fi network will be slower than an Ethernet network or direct Ethernet connection between the Mac Mini's.
