on the login screen I can type my user name without any issue, however in the password field as soon as i put my cursor it just starts typing. I have no control. If I click the arrow to login it deletes but starts typing again non stop
Usually this means your keyboard is bad (perhaps one of the keys unique to the password and not in your user name is bad). You can try using an external keyboard to see if that works (depends on the issue with the built-in keyboard).
Try booting into Safe Mode to see if the problem still occurs. If Safe Mode works, then it may indicate you have an issue with some third party software.

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities! From our understanding, when you're trying to enter your password, you screen is responding without input, is that right?
Is this happening on your Mac? Has it been restated? Is it up to date running the latest version of the macOS?
