How to connect an Apple 27 inch Cinema Display to a MacBook early 2016 with a single USB-C port
Is there an Apple adapter that will permit me to connect my MacBook (early 2016) to an Apple 27 inch Cinema Display?
MacBook, macOS 12.2

Thanks very helpful. This seems to be a Swiss army knife for Apple connectivity, it is almost $500.00 which is expensive for a nine year old display. Wish there were a simple and less expensive solution.
You don't. A pretty sure that a 2016 MacBook's USB-C port is not Thunderbolt capable, so I doubt that the adaptor will work. This is assuming that that 27" Display is the Thunderbolt one and not the DisplayPort one. But, also note, that there is no adapter available to use a DisplayPort model either.
Hey Lanny, My Apple Cinema Display is the 27 inch with the mini-display port connector. I ordered an Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter and read on the outside of the unopened box that it does not work with the Apple Cinema Display. Realize this is a 9 year old monitor, but its like new and I don't want to send it to recycling until its no longer working.
Too bad Apple does not seem to have the right adapter.
I am also going to try two low cost adapters from Amazon "USB C to Mini DisplayPort Adapter,USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 3) to Mini Displayport Adapter 4K@60Hz & Nylon Compatible with MacBook Pro 2016-2020/Air,ChromeBook Pixel,IPad Pro2018-2020,Galaxy S8 /S9 More" and another cable I can use with the VGA adapter for my MacBook " Mini DisplayPort to VGA Cable, Benfei Mini DisplayPort to VGA 3 Feet Cable (Thunderbolt 2 Compatible) with MacBook Air/Pro, Surface Pro/Dock, Monitor, Projector"
There is no adapter, or combination of adapters, that will allow you to use that monitor with a 12" Retina MacBook, period.
Don't waste your time.
You will need a monitor that has either a HDMI (with an adapter) or a USB-C video input.
I'd use a good thunderbolt 3 Dock such as Cal Digit TS3+ loads of connectivity for future reasons.
Thanks Lanny
