iMovie Adjustments Bar, Has Orange Coloured Buttons, Why?

I’ve been wondering about this for some years now, and finally got around to asking about it.

What does it mean when the Color Balance, Color Correction and/or Volume buttons in the iMovie adjustments bar, are orange?

I don't see anything about the orange buttons here, 'Adjust a clip’s colour in iMovie on Mac', https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/imovie/movf2a3f0f42/mac.

What version of iMovie are you using? Can you post a screen shot of the project screen view?

Other than the speed dial button, in iMovie 10 I've never seen what you describe. They should look like this:

If the orange buttons work correctly, then I would think that the color has no relevance. If the orange buttons don't work, than the color likely indicates that they are inactive for some reason. Is there any clicks or clip selections that you can make that change the color?
