I've read several "answers" here but every time I run into a "Verification failed" error because the phone can't connect to the Apple server. I'd really like to erase it before I recycle it.

I have here an iPhone without SIM card, but connect to WI-Fi, it is possible.

I've done all those things. I get the same error message and can't proceed. I don't want to remove it from my account until I erase it.

On the phone. When I click "Erase all content and settings."
