Wallet app completely drains my iPhone battery after installing Apple Card.

1 month ago I applied for and installed a new Apple Card on my phone. Since then, the wallet app has drained about 8 to 10% of my battery every hour. When I am using cellular data, it drains close to 15% of battery every hour. If I leave the house, I now need to put my phone on airplane mode, or else it eats up nearly all of my 5gb cellular data plan in a matter of hours.

I have tried absolutely everything listed on a similar discussion thread about this topic from a few years ago. I have called Apple support, and I have visited an apple store. Nobody knows how to fix it, or what to tell me. I left the Apple store today with no resolutions, and two “last resort” solutions of … Buying a new iPhone, and if that doesn’t work attempting to create a new iCloud account, and transferring the Apple Card to that account (which I don’t think is even possible).

My phone is the iPhone SE (2nd generation), and I am running iOS 15.3.  (I believe I was running 15.1 when I first installed the Apple Card).

I have tried….

-Restarting

-Updated latest iOS

-Closing wallet app

-De-selected “double-click” home button

-Turn off background app refresh on ALL apps

-turned off wallet notifications

-Erase phone and re-install from iCloud backup

-erase phone and install from iTunes.

-erase phone and fresh reinstall (from phone)

-Removed wife from family share

-Turned off location tracking for Wallet

-Turned off app tracking

-turned off wireless data for wallet.

-deleted wallet app

as of now, my phone is literally useless — due to the fact that I can not take it off of airplane mode when I leave the house, in fear that it will completely deplete my battery, and use up all of my data. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you...but yes. I tried erase and set up as new both with iTunes, and directly from the phone. Once I sign-in to my iCloud on a newly erased device, the wallet app picks back up where it left off, and continues to suck data and battery.

It definitely seems like the problem is tied to my iCloud account. I'm sure that it would be "solved" if I were to cancel the Apple Card and/or create a new iCloud account, but those are absolutely ridiculous options that I shouldn't need to resort to in order to make these products function.

1. It’s been happening since I applied for and installed a new Apple Card on my phone at the beginning of the month.

2. I am enrolled in autopay with my bank account. I also have the Apple Card tied to a few online merchants (Amazon, Hulu, etc).

3. All settings associated with wallet are turned off and disabled. This included cellular data, location services, tracking, and notifications. The wallet app consumes battery and uses cellular data even with these settings switched off.
