Compromised passwords still showing after changing them or deleting accounts

I am changing the passwords that Apple has identified as compromised, easily guessed or already used. In some cases, I'm deleting the entire account where a password is problematic. However, these accounts are still showing in the Security Recommendations of Passwords after I've fixed them. Will the system eventually figure out those passwords/accounts are okay or is there a way for me to manually delete the notification? Unless I keep a written list of the ones I've fixed and match it up to what the Security Recommendations says, I won't be able to keep track of new issues. Any advice? I have a Mac and an iPhone and sometimes the Security Recommendations for Passwords don't match up between devices.

Hey mskwbrown,

It appears that you're trying to update the passwords you're using on different accounts since you've found that some of them were marked with Security Recommendations. You've fixed many of them, but you're wondering when the list will update between your iPhone and Mac, and we're glad to provide assistance.

Password Monitoring - Apple Support -- While there isn't a way to mark them as "completed" or any time frame to refer to, this page of the Apple Platform Security User Guide explains how it works. Your iPhone and Mac will perform these checks only when they're connected to the internet so that they're able to connect to the Apple servers.

Feel free to get back to us with any questions or problems you may have.

All the best.

Thanks for getting back to us with that question, mskwbrown.

Basically, once you’ve changed a password, the process starts over from the beginning. It goes through your passwords continuously and checks them against a most commonly leaked passwords list (such as Apple ID passwords as an example), then runs them through a curated list of those not as common. The ones that pass will be updated on both devices eventually.

However, you could use either device as a baseline, and copy the username/app to a note in the Notes app and sync/share them with the other device:

Use Notes on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Write and format notes on Mac - Apple Support

Otherwise, keep both devices turned on and connected to the internet to keep the process moving forward.

Cheers!
