Airpods pro keeps on connecting to nearby devices while in case

Hey everyone, my Airpods Pro keeps on connecting and disconnecting itself randomly to nearby devices while sitting in closed case. I have cleaned my case from inside as suggested in forums, recently reset the airpods and also the pods are also in new condition. Anyone facing such issue or any possible solution for this?

I am having a similar issue where my AirPod pros are in their Charging Case and randomly connect to my iPhone or iPad. This happens multiple times a day and is becoming a distraction. This is also draining the charge of the AirPods. The AirPods will also sometimes randomly disconnect while I’m using them. I’ve already tried cleaning them and that didn’t change anything. I looked on Reddit for help and found a ton of other people experiencing the same issue which leads me to believe it is a software issue.

Hey N_ApplePro,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you have a concern regarding how your AirPods are connecting. Let's help.

"Your AirPods connect automatically to whatever device you’re listening to (you must be signed in with the same Apple ID)." As quoted from within: Switch AirPods between iPhone and other devices

Can you provide us more specific details about what you're noticing with your AirPods? Are they connecting to other devices that are signed in to your Apple ID? How are you able to notice when they connect and disconnect randomly to nearby devices? Alerts or something else?

The more details the better. We look forward to continuing to support you here in the Communities.

Best regards.

N_ApplePro,

We appreciate the further explanation and have a clearer understanding of what you are experiencing.

It can be normal for your AirPods to remain connected shortly after using them, then placing them back into their case. It sounds like this isn't what you're experiencing though, as it sounds like its after they're in the case for an extended period of time. We'd suggest making sure all devices associated with your AirPods, are fully updated.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Update macOS on Mac

Also check to make sure "Automatic Ear Detection" is enabled in Settings > Bluetooth > [AirPods Name] on the iOS device.

Though, we also recommend getting in touch with Apple directly, to confirm what you're experiencing: Get Support

Best regards.

Yes Sure! So the closed Airpods are connecting to one of the nearby device signed in to the same apple id.

How I am noticing?

User journey-> I try to pick up a phone call on my iPhone and it automatically gets connected to my closed up airpods lying nearby. I have to manually switch to speaker or iphone speaker to transfer the audio from airpod to my iphone. Sometimes airpods gets disconnected automatically in 1-2 secs o picking up the call. But this is random.

Another user journey -> Mac audio suddenly gets cut off from its inbuilt speaker and gets transferred to airpods. I have to manually switch sound output.

Another user journey -> Locked Mac suddenly gets connected to airpods, identified by screen gets lights up randomly. It gets disconnected automatically too sometimes.

All these observations are while airpods are closed in their case and has been that way for quite some time.

Agree with another reply here on the thread, its draining Airpods battery too (~15-20% case battery decrease in 8 hours)
