iPhone XS Max microphone not working in phone calls

Hi,

I have an iPhone XS Max with iOS 15.1. On an intermittent basis my microphone is not working in phone calls. I power off and on my phone and typically it works again for a short period of time. The problem seems to be happening when I make phone calls - if I use Whatsapp to make an audio call the microphone seems to work. This problem only started to happen last week.

Hi DTCullinane,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today with the mic on your iPhone XS Max. It sounds like it doesn't always work with phone calls.

First, we'd advise updating to iOS 15.3.

Then if the issue continues, follow these troubleshooting steps: If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working.

"If people can't hear you on phone or FaceTime calls

Open the Voice Memos app.
Tap the Record button , speak at the bottom of your phone, then stop the recording.
When you play back the memo, you should hear your voice clearly.
If you don't hear your voice clearly, contact Apple Support."
