Hi there erk53,

From what we can tell, songs are skipping over the first second when listening on your Mac. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities, and we’d like to learn more to see how we can help.

Is this happening with streaming content or songs that are downloaded on your Mac? Does this happen with every song you listen to? Are you accessing these tracks in Apple Music?

Next, try working through the suggestions in this link:

If you have problems playing music on Mac

Let us know how it goes, and we'll take a closer look from there.

Cheers.

erk53,

You're certainly welcome! Let's continue working together to sort this out.

Just to confirm, you're not experiencing this behavior when you listen to music directly from the built-in speakers on your MacBook?

If you remove the playlist and redownload it on your MacBook, does that seem to make a difference? Learn more here:

Create, edit, and delete playlists in Music on Mac

Thanks!

This is happening on a playlist that is downloaded to my MacBook Pro that I use for my university music classes. I've used this playlist for many years, but this problem just started about a year ago.

I neglected to mention that this problem seems to occur mostly when my MacBook is connected to external speakers in the classroom (such as "Smart Classroom" equipment or a sound bar on a TV). Many, tracks start a second or two late when you click on them and press the play button.

Sparks, I really appreciate your willingness to help! Yes, this problem seems to occur only when I am hooked up to external speakers, and seems to work fine on my internal MacBook Pro speakers.

Honestly, I am kinda terrified to remove my playlists. I have built these up over the past couple of decades for my classes, and I would be in big trouble if I lost them. Rebuilding them would be a huge project with hundreds works and tracks--some of which I may no longer be able to find.
